The Construction Timeline: What to Expect When Building an ADU

A typical Ithaca ADU takes about 30–32 weeks from first consultation to keys in hand.

Weeks 1–6: Consultation and design

Assess the site, settle the program and develop drawings and renderings.

Weeks 7–12: Permits

Submit the application and respond to city comments.

Weeks 13–30: Prep and build

Order materials, prepare the site, then pour the foundation, frame, rough in systems and finish interiors, with inspections along the way.

Weeks 31–32: Final inspection

Pass the final inspection and receive a certificate of occupancy.
